Changes to Better Live our Mission of Evangelization

It would be easier to remain with the status quo, but that would be irresponsible. Changes are necessary and constitute an opportunity for us to launch out with zeal and love to continue the Mission of Jesus in today’s world. It will be necessary to find ways of adapting our pastoral practices to the experiences of our time according to the resources available, our strengths, our personnel and our humble means.
In 2005-2006, we created 14 pastoral units: 11 Francophone and 3 Anglophone. Many pastoral units have established a Unit Pastoral Council (UPC), have chosen a patron, prepared a logo for the whole unit and have initiated various projects. Not all units have moved in the same rhythm, but on the whole, I observe many very fine efforts and, as well, some real successes.
Since January 2007, the pastoral units have begun to form Unit Pastoral Teams (UPT) by recruiting representatives in the sectors of liturgy, youth ministry and faith education for adults. I am very happy to recognize the efforts of many pastors, Parish Pastoral Councils (PPC) and Unit Pastoral Councils (UPC) for inviting persons to accept such responsibilities. The challenge for the new pastoral year will be to offer training, common orientation and concrete projects in view of our common Mission.
This year, we have another hurdle to clear: completing the UPT. Many of those chosen are anxious to undertake projects in their respective sectors. Each member of the UPT shares one aspect of the pastoral charge with the pastor. There is a real richness in teamwork. For us, this richness is even greater since the team which works in the name of Christ is assure of his presence.
My hope is that “our best years” as Church are not behind us, but are those that we now live and are carried into the future. May the Lord bless us and make us stronger witnesses in faith, more rooted in hope and richer in charity. A good pastoral year 2008-2009 to all.
